In late 2019, reported cases of COVID-19, in Wuhan City, China, a new coronavirus, which originated in animals such as bat, pangolin, and human contact with these animals. The main route of transmission between humans is respiratory, but other mechanisms are still studied. SARS-CoV-2 is a betacoronavirus, whose genome is single-stranded RNA, wrapped in M, E and S proteins, the latter responsible for binding to human cell receptors. Available treatments based on counteracting the virus (antivirals) and enhancing the body's defense mechanisms (immunomodulators), as well as blocking viral replication mechanisms in the host.
